The Importance of Sleep
Sleep is by far the most important medicine for your body. It has amazing healing powers that can help boost your immune system, give you energy, and help you lose weight.
It's so important that one of the most important questions that I ask new patients is, "How's your sleep?" If I can help someone sleep better with acupuncture, nutrition, and herbs, more than half of their symptoms will improve. Humans need 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Without it, we get moody, tired, crave sweets, have trouble focusing, and catch more colds.
Your adrenals produce cortisol which regulates your biological clock and therefore your sleep. Cortisol peaks at 6am when you begin to was up, and it drops to its lowest at 10pm when you should be asleep. Getting to bed before 10pm is crucial for your health and for the proper functioning of your adrenal glands.
